Matt Johnson, CA
Managing Director
Matt is an experienced CFO skilled in leading finance teams, capital raising and executing founder exit strategies. He advises a range of leading high growth E-Commerce and SaaS businesses in Australia and New Zealand and advises a private fund with over $1b in funds under management. Prior to establishing MSJ Advisory he was the Oceania Finance Director for Global Payments Inc (NYSE: GPN) software division and CFO of a large family office. Prior to this he was a strategy and operations consultant at EY and PwC financial services audit division in New York and Sydney. Matt is a member of Chartered Accountants AU/NZ and holds a Bachelor of Business (Finance and Accounting) from the University of Technology Sydney with Distinction.

Matt Van Geldermalsen

Matt is a commercially minded finance analyst with experience across professional services, infrastructure, and higher education. He began his career at Arup, working in both Australia and the Netherlands across management accounting and business partnering roles. He later joined Deloitte’s restructuring team, supporting turnaround, insolvency, and special situation engagements — developing a strong commercial lens and the ability to navigate complexity under pressure.
Before joining MSJ Advisory, Matt was a finance business partner at the University of Newcastle, where he worked closely with senior stakeholders on budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance. He’s a Chartered Accountant with a calm, structured approach and a focus on building finance functions that bring clarity and insight to fast-growing businesses.

Chris Sponiar
Strategy and operations advisor
Chris is a former VC and strategy consultant turned operator, with 15+ years across eCommerce, SaaS, and consumer tech. He’s held COO, CFO, and GM roles at companies in Sydney, London, and New York, including Jet.com (acquired by Walmart), Maisonette, and Walmart.com. Chris has raised over AU$100M as an operator and deployed US$17M as an investor with Unilever Ventures, backing companies like Gousto and Percolate. At Maisonette, he led a US$30M Series B and drove 4x GMV growth. As interim COO at a 300-person fintech, he co-led a $60M+ fundraise and drove multi-million dollars opex cuts and org change. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director at Chemist2U. Chris now consults on capital raising, strategy, operational improvement, and performance programs — helping founders scale with clarity and impact.

David Mortimer

Raymond is a detail-oriented accountant with experience in Australian finance operations. He supports MSJ clients across day-to-day financial management, including bookkeeping, reconciliations, payroll, payables, receivables, BAS and IAS preparation, and month-end reporting. His strong technical foundation ensures accurate reporting and compliance, giving clients the clarity they need to make confident decisions.

Ken Mendoza

Kenneth brings a strong blend of administrative, accounting, and investment operations experience to the MSJ Advisory team. He spent four years supporting an Australian accounting firm, managing client communications, preparing trustee resolutions and unit certificates, and building business structure charts. He’s well-versed in ATO processes and brings a high level of technical proficiency across tools like Nitro PDF and Lucidchart.
He currently works as an administrator for a Sydney-based investment company, where he compiles weekly metrics, prepares monthly financial reports, and supports deal execution through HubSpot. With a sharp eye for detail and a background spanning finance and operations, Kenneth brings structure and efficiency to every task he takes on.
